New 7in - Boddie Acetates - 45 Boxed Set - We consider ourselves blessed to be so close to what we consider the epicenter of obscure vintage soul reissues. Numero Group is just a few blocks away from our quaint little shop and we're constantly blown away by the stuff these avid diggers conjure up. Their latest vinyl release is this incredible (in look and sound) 3x7" box set and we'll let them tell you all about it:
"Culled from the Boddie Recording Co. massive tape archive, this 3 X 45 box set captures the essence of Louise and Thomas Boddie's custom recording outfit. Recorded in the late 60s/early 70s, these three unknown groups are a mere sampling of the regional talent pool the Boddie's attracted. Designed to look and feel like the lathe cut acetates available from this humble Cleveland operation, this limited to 1000 box set is the first glimpse into the Boddie's vast and fascinating empire."
The box looks authentic right down to the Boddie packing tape wrapped around the center and the jams contained within these grooves are some of the best anonymous soul jams we've heard in a while. If we know anything about Numero, they'll be spending the next howeverlong digging up the deets and pulling a Boddie LP our two (with extensive liner notes and beautiful packaging) out of their hats. Until then, we definitely recommend reveling in the beauty that is this limited edition mystery box set before they disappear. Preview the cuts here, if you must.
